For the past ten years Laura has performed stand-up, improv and sketch in various clubs, festivals, theaters, restaurants, bars, lounges, cafes, parks, stores, schools, hotels, hostels, yoga studios, former strip clubs and current dungeons all over New York City and Los Angeles. Prior to receiving a BFA in Theatre at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Laura was a member of Binghamton University’s improv team with Jeff Bower! She is thrilled to be reunited with Jeff to help spread some sketch love and wisdom to the WMM community. Since completing UCB’s improv and sketch program, Laura has worked with various improv indie teams, appeared at the LA Improv Comedy Festival, written for UCB’s Sketch Cram, and appeared at Sketchbar as part of its monthly house team. Laura currently contributes to We Make Movies’ WMMoriginals YouTube Channel, iO West’s topical sketch show Top Story!, and writes and hosts the topical recap web series 1 Week, 5 Jokes. Laura wrote and starred in the short film Ten Minute Decade. It was a winner at the Hammer Museum’s Open Projector Night hosted by the Sklar Brothers and Laura won “Best Actress in a Short Film” from the Sunset Film Festival. In September 2014 Laura will have two monologues published in the collection Women’s Comedic Monologues That Are Actually Funny by Hal Leonard Applause Books. About Jeff Bower:
Jeff has a BA in Mathematics from SUNY Binghamton (where he mainly did theatre and improv with Laura Mannino) and a MFA in acting from Florida Atlantic, where his performance as the gay Jesus in the play “Corpus Christi” nearly lost the university 60 million dollars in funding and earned him police protection due to a death threat. Jeff remained with the crazies in Florida and was lucky enough to have had a supporting role in a film with Barry Bostwick, and the late Ron Palillo. His “day job” was as an adjunct professor and high school acting/playwriting teacher for seven years. He also served as Artistic Director for the professional theatre company he co-founded, Rude Mechanical Productions. In LA he has completed the improv training at UCB and iO West. He has a play published with Samuel French, a book published on Amazon, and his script “Baby Not On Board”, co-written with Matt Stabile, was a finalist in the iO West Pilots Live Competition and selected as an Amazon Notable Project. He even worked as a mascot for a brief time period. What a weird, wild life he has lead. See more stuff about him at www.castjeffbower.com
